BIOGRAFIE: Samuel Zünd studied singing under Margreet Honig at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam and the HMT Zürich (now ZHdK) under Christoph Prégardien. Subsequently he further studied Interpretation of Song under Rudolf Jansen and Irwin Gage, baroque singing under René Jacobs, and attended master classes with Robert Holl, Hans Hotter and Udo Reinemann, deriving further inspiration from working with Dunja Vejzovic. He was prize winner at the Paula-Lindberg-Salomon-Wettbewerb 1995 in Berlin and has won several further awards. He is a co-founder of the Vokalensemble Zürich (performing amongst others at the Königsfelder Festival, Schubertiade Radio Suisse Romande). Since 1993 he has been in great demand as a soloist in the fields of opera (especially baroque and 20th-century), concert and oratorio, and has made radio recordings at home and abroad. Samuel is a highly successful player and mixer in the Swiss entertainment scene, with his close harmony groups Sam Singers, swing4you! and The Voices. He has performed with the good and the great of show biz, for example Hazy Osterwald, Pepe Lienhard, Udo Jürgens and Sandra Studer, at the Ascona Jazz Festival, the Jungfrau Music Festival, or the World Band Festival Lucerne. In 2010 he toured with a show dedicated to Frank Sinatra. In 2012 he toured with Udo Jürgens through Europe, and in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2022 throughout Switzerland with the Pepe Lienhard Big Band. In 2016 he played the main role of Vico Torriani in the musical Hotel Victoria at the Theater Chur. In 2017, 2020 and 2023 he was in the Trittligass-Zürcher Ballade Cabarettistische Revue trilogy, together with Walter Andreas Müller, Jürg Randegger and Christian J. Jenny, a show comprising chansons composed by himself (recorded on vinyl in autumn 2021). Zünd can currently be heard in baritone parts such as Bach's St John Passion, Lavarini's Morgenstern-Galgenlieder, the Zurich Bach Collegium's cycle of cantatas, as speaker in Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, in a Schubert-Goethe Lieder programme together with the fortepiano virtuoso Els Biesemanns, throughout Switzerland with the double-hander A Fine Romance with Julia Schiwowa (and Band), and at the Kurkonzerte St. Moritz every summer with the groups Musenkuss-Kabinett, The Sam Singers and LenZün. 2024 saw him on a lengthy tour of Switzerland, Austria and Germany with the Pepe Lienhard Band in the show da capo Udo Jürgens, and also with the Argovia Philharmonics on a Christmas tour with the Sam Singers. |
